mosaik

A package for working with landscape mosaics: the spatially explicit, per-cell evidence underneath nature-condition reporting.

mosaik builds landscapes from simple, inspectable rules and measures their structure. It computes the land-cover configuration and structural condition that disclosure frameworks (ESRS E4, TNFD, SBTN) cite, reproducibly, with provenance, and with the reference state left explicit and yours to set.

Landscape metrics, and where they come from

Every landscape metric in mosaik is derived from a small set of geometric primitives (area, perimeter, adjacency, distance) combined through one equation engine rather than a wall of bespoke functions. The graph below shows that dependency structure: each metric traced back to the primitives it rests on.

mosaik is research software in active development. Generated landscapes are plausible synthetic inputs, not measured data; for real reporting, measured layers are supplied directly.
